by Justin inin coc, ray franz stated that, when he was a member of the writing department, he found older bible commentaries quite helpful to use for research.
now you can locate these types of commentators, such as adam clarke, albert barnes, and matthew henry online.
check out http://studylight.org/com/ and http://bible.crosswalk.com/commentaries .. the advantage of these commentaries is that the writers believed the bible to be the inspired word of god.

Not Too Bad A Cult.... In Comparison To Others. Let's Talk About Cults.
by Doubtfully Yours ini saw an episode of a day talk show the other day in which they interviewed these two women that were part of a polygamous cult in utah.
the cult was referred to as 'the order'.. men married many young wives, and these were expected/forced to breed in large numbers.
these women worked for the cult.

Wouldn't you know that if she misses church they call her and inquire why
That's a bad thing?
I must be attending a cult, because if I'm not there on Sunday, they wonder if I'm OK. Does that mean I work for a cult, because they call to see why I'm not there? Does that mean my softball team is a cult if they call to see where I am? Wow dummy me, I thought that they really cared.

All these things are bad, but, what coud be worse than this, if you are one of the kids that die, without a blood transfusion?
"In former times thousands of youths died for putting God first. They are still doing it, only today the drama is played out in hospitals and courtrooms, with blood transfusions the issue."
Awake! - May 22, 1994, p.2 (Official Jehovah's Witness publication)
These JW kids died prematurely - do you know why?D Dog

I think you'll probably agree that someone can "find Christ" without any book at all (given the oral alternative, aforementioned). Moreover Paul found him with the OT and an experience (albeit he had heard biased reports).
Your point is valid, in light of Hebrews 1. We can find Him most anywhere, learn of Him through His word, His people, and The Holy Spirit. But that is all consistant with the Truth in the Book or the Jesus of the Book.
But my question would be, do you have confidence due to his arguments, or due to your personal relationship? Is your faith due to Christ or due to Paul's reasoning?
Both evidence, what I see and relationship. Same as Paul.
I meant that some fear that "others" haven't got Jesus. I'm concerned about how this makes them act.
I can only be sure of myself, but, when Paul speakes of fear of someone having the wrong Jesus, I think his fear is caused by his love for them, much like his love for his kinsmen in Romans 9

Now I fear for you...
LOLDon't laugh to hard, but you can pray for me all you want!
Lets be honest, there's precious little in the letters
I've never found them lacking.
Something about the way you said that makes me think that your definition of "Apostle" is determined by "seeing" Christ (an extrabiblical teaching that I understand some denominations believe).
Act 1:22
Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.I wouldn't say extrabiblical, But I wouldn't hang my hat on this verse except to say this shows there was a test and it is apparent that he did pass it later on in Acts.
The 1Cor.15 argument only has reasonable rational worth if you have a personal relationship with Christ. If you just read it, as taken, it's worrisome! That's faith in Paul's argument, not faith in Christ!
Wow! Did I give you the impression that I have no relationship? I quoted that passage to say that I have the same confidence as Paul or I agree with him. Not in this passage as evidence. This is after he gives a list of witnesses. But, If you think you have a better way of salvation than Christ's death and resurrection I'm all ears (some people say I'm a hounD Dog) Remember you asked if I feared having the wrong Jesus. If Paul, James Luke and the rest, had the wrong Jesus, then I probably do to.
What is worrisome to me, is that you seem to base your faith on experience, regardless of scripture. I hope I'm wrong. I believe that my experience should be tested by the sciptures.
but if you come into the viper's nest, expect a bite or two
LOL I been bitten by bigger snakes than you! ha! ha! hiss! hiss!

Certainly not the written one of the NT. It hadn't been compiled at that point. In fact it's unlikely that any of the Gospels had been recorded.
I'm confused. It looks like you are suggesting that, Paul would say one thing and write another. I think Paul was conserned about himself preaching the one true Jesus and someone else teaching about another, and I believe this still happens today. For instance, I recently had someone say that Jesus sinned right up til he was baptized, I've had others tell about things they feel about Jesus that contradict scripture. Do I take thier word about Jesus or do I take the bible's account?
Paul would have been going off of personal testimony and scriptures from the OT that shed light on him
On this we agree, and I think if Paul was an apostle we should agree that his is the true account.
None. I've not seen the movie yet.
Thats OK, what about just from the general info you have read about his life?
Getting back to the subject of fear, do you think that "fear" that individuals haven't got the right saviour might cause individuals to act in a certain manner?
That's a tuff one for me, I've never had that fear. I look at it this way1Co 15:13-19
But if there is not a resurrection of the dead, neither has Christ been raised. But if Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation is worthless, and your faith is also worthless. And also we are found to be false witnesses of God, because we witnessed as to God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if the dead ones are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, Christ has not been raised. But if Christ has not been raised, your faith is foolish; you are still in your sins. And then those that fell asleep in Christ were lost. If we only have hope in Christ in this life, we are of all men most miserable.Paul doesn't seem to be worried why should I be. If you have something better, that might be good news.

This would align with my own experience and scripture (Rom.1:20; 2:14).
Forgive me, but are not these verses, speaking about those who say we did not hear (see or recieve)?
Further, did the Philippian jailer (Acts.16:30-33) read the Bible of hear about Jesus by word of mouth?
The mode is not important, but the who is. I think it's safe to say that Paul and Silas would tell him about the Jesus of the bible, not the Jesus of the Watchtower, mormons, or my spanish friend up the street. Remember, he asked Paul and Silas "what must I do that I may be saved?", not a couple of JWs at the local kingdom hall or a couple of morman missionaries.
So, by your quotation of 2Cor. are you suggesting that Paul wasn't a Calvinist?
Not at all, He is simply stressing that we need to share the same Jesus, the real Jesus that revealed himself to Paul.
2Co 11:6
But even if I am unskilled in speech, yet not in knowledge. But in every way I have been clearly revealed to you in all things.I haven't seen that movie, is it recent? If so, it may not have come out in thie country yet.
As for the movie, here is the official site, including a trailer. www.lutherthemovie.comI would suggest that his fear had elements of rationale and irrational fear of the weather. One could argue that it got him where he needed to go, but would that have been any less the case had he "observed his fear"? It seems that he found the root cause of it, which is what we're discussing here.
Some may suggest that his anger was the cause. Any thoughts?

They've got their own one?
Yes, they do, and if you would like I could quote there president/prophet stating that the Jesus of the reformers is not the same Jesus that they worship. also see 2Cor 11:3-4 But I fear...
Now stop taking the thread off-thread, and relate that back to fear...
OK lets talk about Luthers fear, the fear that God was shooting thunder bolts at him. Again did you see the movie? Do you know much about him through his writings? Was his fear of God rational or irrational? Nark
As in, what kind of fear underlies (D)Dog-matism?
LOL that's a good one! You got me. Its the same fear that Paul had in 2Cor 11:3-4 D Dog
